BUXTON started brightly but faded as Stoke ran out victors by 38-52 in the Travel Plus National League at Hi-Edge Raceway on Sunday afternoon.

The Hitmen opened up with a 4-2 from Ben Wilson and Lewis Whitmore who had been second before being passed by Stoke guest Anders Rowe, Stoke were level in her three as for Hitmen Max Clegg took a comfortable victory from Tom Woolley with David Wallinger third to leave the team tied at 9-9.

The Hitmen went in front for a second time with Joe Lawlor and skipper Woolley combining for a 5-1 over Potters guest Rowe who tussled with Woolley to the chequered flag but the home rider kept his nerve to hold the Potter off. The Hitmen then crumbled with the Potters grabbed a 5-1 in heat seven and followed up with a couple of further 4-2 advantages and a 5-1 to lead 38-28 after eleven heats.

Buxton looked to be steadying things and were on for a 5-1 in heat twelve as Woolley and Pavitt hit the front, but Pavitt lost control and fell with Wallinger going over the top and the race being stopped. Wallinger walks back to the pits but Pavitt is taken to the pits in the ambulance. Pavitt is excluded from the rerun with Wallinger replaced by Burnett with Woolley taking the victory for a drawn heat. The Hitmen fall further behind as Clegg and Rowe combine for a 4-2 over Wilson to leave the home side trailing 33-45 with two races remaining. Stoke completed their victory with a 4-2 in the final heat with Clegg securing an 18-point maximum for the visitors beating Lawlor with Rowe third.
